Brown Sugar Overnight Oats (Print version)

Creamy oats with brown sugar and vanilla, ready when you wake. Perfect wholesome breakfast with minimal effort.

# Ingredient List:

→ Oats Base

01 - 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
02 - 1 cup milk (dairy or plant-based)
03 - 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
04 - 2 tablespoons brown sugar
05 - 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
06 - Pinch of salt

→ Toppings

07 - 1/2 cup fresh berries or sliced banana
08 - 1 tablespoon chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans)
09 - 1 tablespoon chia seeds or flaxseeds

# How To Make It:

01 - In a medium bowl or large jar, combine oats, milk, Greek yogurt, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Stir thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated and the brown sugar has dissolved.
02 - Cover the container and refrigerate for at least 6 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the oats to soften and fully absorb the liquid, creating a creamy texture.
03 - In the morning, stir the oats well. If the mixture is too thick, add a splash of milk to reach your desired consistency.
04 - Divide the overnight oats between two bowls or jars. Top with fresh berries or sliced banana, chopped nuts, and chia or flaxseeds as desired. Serve chilled.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • The brown sugar melts into the oats overnight creating these tiny pockets of caramel sweetness throughout
  • You can double the batch and feel like a meal prep genius for days
02 -
  • The oats continue softening in the fridge so day 3 will be much softer than day 1
  • Glass jars work better than plastic because you can see if everything is properly mixed
03 -
  • Mason jars with wide mouths are so much easier to clean than narrow ones
  • The brown sugar settles at the bottom so give it a really good stir before eating
